Invisalign Dentistry

Invisalign offers a flexible and inconspicuous orthodontic option for individuals who desire straighter, more even teeth. Through the use of removal plastic aligners, Invisalign gently and effectively positions the teeth so that they are properly aligned and spaced. Because the aligners are clear, they are hardly noticeable when worn and they can be removed during meals, which are two main advantages that Invisalign offers over traditional metal braces. Although they can be removed, they must be worn for a minimum of 22 hours a day to obtain the desired results. Invisalign aligners can be used by both teenagers and adults alike, however they are an ideal option for adults because they don’t require as many lifestyle changes or appointments as traditional wire braces.

Did You Know?

Invisalign aligners are made from something called SmartTrack material. SmartTrack material has been exclusively designed for the Invisalign aligners for its ability to apply gentle and constant force, control tooth movements, fit snugly around your teeth, treat teeth up to 50% faster, and offer 75% more predictability with treatments.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Am I a candidate for Invisalign?

You may be a candidate for Invisalign if you have crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth. You may also be a candidate for Invisalign if you have an overbite, underbite, or crossbite. To find out if Invisalign is the right orthodontic treatment for you, schedule a consultation with Dr. Dokhanchi and Dr. Micaletti of Fox Valley Dental today!

How does Invisalign orthodontic treatment work?

To begin your Invisalign orthodontic treatment, our dentists will first perform an oral scan of your mouth. This scan is used to obtain images of your teeth and gums so that your clear aligners can be customized to the exact size and shape of your smile. After this initial scan is taken, it may take a week or two to have your aligners fabricated by a dental lab.

Invisalign aligners in case

Once your aligners have arrived at our office, you will come in to pick them up and ensure that they fit correctly. Our dentists will then provide you with instructions on how to wear and care for your aligners. During Invisalign orthodontic treatment, you are expected to wear your aligners for a minimum of 22 hours a day and should only remove them when eating, brushing, or flossing.

In addition, you will need to schedule appointments about every six to eight weeks with our office so that we can monitor your progress and provide you with the next set of aligners. With most Invisalign orthodontic treatments, you will wear each aligner for about a week or two and then progress to the next aligner. However, our dentists will provide you with specific instructions depending on your individual case and treatment plan.

With some cases, SmartForce attachments may also be used. SmartForce attachments are tiny, tooth-colored shapes that sit on the surface of your teeth and exert additional force on a specific spot. They are used when drastic movement is required in a particular area. Because they blend in with your natural teeth, they are hardly noticeable.

Does Invisalign orthodontic treatment hurt?

Invisalign orthodontic treatment can cause some mild discomfort, especially when switching to new aligners. This discomfort is usually a result of the pressure being exerted on your teeth and will usually fade once your teeth have adjusted. Some people may take over the counter pain medications to alleviate this discomfort if needed. One key benefit to Invisalign, however, is that the aligners will not rub the insides of your cheeks and lips like traditional metal braces.

How long do I have to wear Invisalign?

Generally, Invisalign treatment lasts for about 12-18 months. This time frame can vary depending on your individual case, and your treatment time may be shorter or longer. During your initial consultation, our dentists will be able to give you a better idea of how long your specific Invisalign treatment should last?

What types of lifestyle changes will I have to make with Invisalign?

Luckily, Invisalign orthodontic treatment does not require drastic lifestyle changes like other orthodontic methods. A few lifestyle changes you will have to make include brushing your teeth after meals and drinks, and keeping your aligners clean by brushing them every night. You will also need to continue your usual dental routine of brushing twice a day and flossing once a day.

Another key lifestyle change you will have to make is keeping your aligners safe. To accomplish this, simply leave them in your mouth or in their protective case. You will also need to avoid washing them with hot water because this can cause their shape to warp and affect your treatment results.

One key lifestyle change you will NOT have to make, however, is dietary changes. Since Invisalign aligners are removed during meals, this means you can continue to eat whatever you want without damaging your aligners. This is one of the perks to Invisalign orthodontic treatment.

How much does Invisalign orthodontic treatment cost?

The cost of your Invisalign orthodontic treatment will depend on your individual treatment plan. The average cost of Invisalign treatments ranges from $3000-$8000, which is about the same price as traditional metal braces. However, if you have dental insurance, you can usually obtain partial coverage to offset the total cost.

Do I have to wear a retainer after Invisalign orthodontic treatment?

Yes, with any orthodontic treatment, retainers are always necessary after treatment to maintain the results. However, you have some options when it comes to retainers. You can either use a traditional wire retainer or a Vivera retainer, which is Invisalign’s clear retainer. Most retainers are worn full time directly following treatment and then progress to being worn at night only.
